Maggie Grace, born Margaret Grace Denig on 21 September of 1983 in Worthington, Ohio, USA is an American actor. She is best known for her roles as Shannon Rutherford and Kim Mills as well in ABC's Lost television show. The couple had separated and they moved together with their mother in Los Angeles. Although she was struggling financially and in the beginning, she made her acting debut acting as Rachel's Room's main character. Following her win of a Young Artist Award in 2002 for her portrayal as Murder in Greenwich of a 15-year aged Martha Moxley as a murder victim, she went on to take home the award. In 2004 Grace was selected to portray Shannon Rutherford in the television show Lost in which she was a main cast member for the first two seasons, and was awarded an award called the Screen Actors Guild Award shared with the ensemble cast. Grace was keen to pursue film following her role as Tom Welling's character in The Fog, in 2005. She appeared on screen in Suburban Girl The Jane Austen Book Club (both 2007) as well as opposite Liam Neeson as Kim Mills in Taken in 2008. The role was reprised in Taken 2 (2013) and Taken 3 (2015). In addition, she played Alice in Malice in Wonderland which is an updated adaptation from Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Grace was back on the Lost series for the last two episodes, playing Shannon. The year 2013 saw Grace appear in Californianation, the 6th season. She portrays Faith who is both the star-gazer and a groupie. Hank Moody, played by David Duchovny, falls for her. Being part of the Gyllenhaal Family, she's the younger sister of the actor Jake Gyllenhaal. The first time she appeared in the films of her father when he was an adolescent. Together with her brother she was also on the screen in Donnie Darko (2000). She also was featured as a character in Adaptation Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. Also, she appeared in Mona Lisa Smile (2003). Gyllenhaal won critical praise in both of her roles as the lead in Secretary (2002) which is the erotic drama about romance and Sherrybaby (2006). The actress received a nomination from the Golden Globe Award. After a string of commercially successful films, including World Trade Center in 2006 her name was recognized more widely in the role of Rachel Dawes (the superhero) in The Dark Knight (2007). In the wake of her performance that was a hit as a mother who is not married of Crazy Heart (2009), she earned the Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Her subsequent roles include Nanny McPhee and in the Big Bang and Hysteria. She also was a Secret Service Agent in White House Down the action thriller from 2013, as well as a singer in Frank (2014) and her role as the main character in The Kindergarten Teacher, a film that debuted in the year 2018. Gyllenhaal was the writer and director of her debut film The Lost Daughter in 2021. The thriller that dealt with psychological issues was awarded the Best Screenplay Award from the Venice International Film Festival. The film was also nominated for the Academy Award of Best Adapted Screenplay.
